Warning : Do not use Winbond Hardware Doctor that comes with the Abit BX6.2 - it has a bug that actually can cut the power to the cpu fan connector ! We recieved a letter from Abit's Jeremy Smith regarding this problem where he says " : For the BX6.rev 2: According to ACPI specifications, the CPU fan speed is relative to the CPU temperature. In the other words, when the CPU temperature is high, the CPU fan will speed up. When the CPU temperature is low, the CPU fan will slow down.Based on this motherboard design, the value of CPU temperature comes from the detected temperature of RT2 header on the motherboard. Therefore, if you attach the CPU fan connector to the FAN1 header on the motherboard, you must install a thermal cable to detect CPU temperature. Otherwise the CPU fan won't work correctly. When you find that situation, and if you do not have a thermistor, we suggest you connect it with other fan connector. Please download the latest version of Hardware Doctor for the BX6.2 to solve this problem, and let me know if it works : " http://www.abit.com.tw/english/download/uti-03.htm Note from us : we have downloaded and installed the new version - and it works flawlessly - Thank's to Jeremy from Abit for the info!. Of course - do not use the CPU fan power connector to your CPU fan's - you want as much cooling as possible at all time - and not a outlet that actually slows down the fan ! Use the CPU fan powerconnector to the fan that cools down the back of your SEPP or your BX-Chip ! This utility is only for the winbond chip - and tells you what you need to know about your system temperature, cpu temperature if you got the thermal cable (probe),fan speed's and more voltage monitoring than you are interested in to know. Very easy to use. But this way of measuring that Abit uses is very inaccurate - what is being measured is the surface temperature straigt above the core.... Note : the sensor that comes with Abit's boards shall not be installed on top of the cpu core - but straight above it.If you mount it on top of the core itself you will greatly reduce heattransfer to the cooler ! Here is a picture that shows a correct installed sensor Asus Probe : Delivered with certain Asus MoBo's . This utility is the best I have seen so far. It measures internal cpu temperature ie. the correct CPU temperature. It also measures the motherboard temperature, voltages , fan speeds ... and even gives you information about memory , harddisk usage , all DMI information, device summary -logging options ... A fantastic utility ! As above -don't use the CPU power outlet to your cpu fan's ... Pic here Motherboard Monitor : By Alex van Kaam : Excellent utility -- a lot more options here than with the Winbond HardwareDoctor - some versions can be memory comsumable. Monitors :Voltages ,Fans,Temperatures, supports CPUIdle, supports ShutDownNow!,shows resources, shows CPU Speed and have several logging options. And it supports different languages too ! Supports the most popular motherboards. It also measures negative temperatures and this is the only utility we can use in VapoChills because of this (pic) highly recommended ! Download this utility from our downloadsection ..
Monitoring Peltier Temperature: I'm using a rather cheap temperature watch which have two poweroutlets and is supplied with external thermal probe. As you can see on the picture you can check the temperature in front of the cabinet. It gives alarm when it reaches desired set point. It can be bought in Scandinavia by Claes Ohlson part# 32-1019 If you are gonna use a peltier - this is a must have and a cheap insurance in case your peltier fails...... Another advantage to have this temperature watch is that you don't have to run a motherboard monitoring program which also uses resources. This unit can of course monitor temperature at any point of your choice - the external cable is pretty long. You can also program the unit to automatically switch-on two of your fans at desired temperature. In the US this temperature watch is sold by Cyberguys . (thx Eric) |
